Hello World!

Welcome to My Healthy Living blog, friends! My name is Ben Greiner, DO, MPH and I am a board certified Internal Medicine Physician in Tulsa, OK and Officer in the Army National Guard. I have over 50 peer reviewed publications, most of which focused on lifestyle behavior change and chronic disease management. Health is my passion and livelihood. Contrary to some perceptions of physicians, I WANT my patients and their family members to live a healthy life. Lifestyle change has the potential to improve energy, libido, cardiovascular health, memory, and mood and may even result in you requiring fewer medications.

After practicing medicine for many years, I’ve realized people are paralyzed in their journeys to improve health. Most recognize that improving nutrition and physical activity are necessary for weight loss or health optimization, but fail to achieve their health goals despite this knowledge. Worse, many people receive bad or even dangerous information online, from their local hairdresser, or even a healthcare professional.

This blog is designed to summarize lifestyle medicine techniques and help you – the busy mother, father, son, husband, patient, military member – accomplish your health goals through easy, straight-forward techniques I’ve used to help many of my own patients. Each blog post will include tips and tricks you can use to achieve sustainable health results. Most importantly, I am on this lifestyle medicine journey with you – join me and you too can experience the benefits of healthy living.

  4. My son who is in his mid forties was 100 lbs overweight, was taking 40 mg of lisinopril and had high LDL and high triglycerides UNTIL he went to a keto high protein diet and started a push-push-legs workout routine. Heis blood work is now completely normal. He had stopped the BP meds and his runs now 110/60 and he has lost that 100 lbs. He did all this in less than 36 months. Lifestyle changes that worked for him.

  12. Doctor, Captain G: This is the type of action and information that separate a caring, excellent physician from a mediocre, every day one. After 40 years in the health care industry, I can say that!

    1. Actually, pharmaceutical companies will like this proactive approach by Dr G. as patients need to understand that preventative medicine is as valid as curative medicine. You want to prevent problems/issues/diseases before they happen. Think where people would be without preventative drugs such as antihypertensives and cholesterol lowering agents. What about detecting diabetes and treating it before it becomes an issue in life? How about a colonoscopy that if done routinely will prevent a patient from having colon cancer? What about men with PSA tests that can detect prostate cancer early? We now have vaccines for shingles, Covid, RSV, flu, and yes, measles. If you are not old enough to remember polio, I am. There were wards in hospitals that had polio victims…usually children. We should all strive to prevent disease! Now if there was only a test to detect pancreatic and ovarian cancer at an early stage!

  18. Thanks to Dr Greiner, a year and a half ago I changed my diet, eating habits, and lifestyle, as well as incorporating a consistent exercise routine. I am now off all medications, including over the counter meds. After fifteen years, all chronic pain and inflammation are completely gone or significantly decreased. THANK YOU DR GREINER! I’m 68, strong, agile, and incredibly grateful!

  20. Dr. Greiner,

Congratulations, and thank you, for doing this! In the old days I, too, was involved with Population Health and there is no question in my mind how important this is. But your blog addresses another important aspect of healthcare-communicating with patients and their families/caregivers. And the communication should help us all understand the “why” behind what we should do on our healthcare journey . That “journey” is more a marathon than a series of sprints. But, unfortunately , for many patients taking care of their health is more like “sprinting from one doctor visit to another” without an over-riding direction by someone like you, their quarterback or point guard. Thank you for what you do so well Dr. Greiner!

  21. Dr. Greiner, I am so fortunate to have you as my doctor. Your approach to medicine is quite refreshing, and I am enjoying your blogs to teach us how to live a more healthy and fulfilling life. You are one of the few doctors who take the time to listen to my concerns and of that I am most thankful! One of the best things about moving to Tulsa is having you as my doctor.
